Beginnings…
It all started as an idea…
My name is Andrea Arzaba and I am the founder of The SunFlower Post Project. In my first post I will tell you the story of how this project was born…
I have been lucky enough to meet brilliant female leaders from different parts of the world throughout the last few years. I have always felt passionate about journalism as a way of creating changes in societies. In different conferences, I have crossed paths with girls with this shared interest. So, after a while, I could not ignore the feeling, I had to do something about it: so many great minds, energy and talent scattered across the globe.
While talking to Febi, a good friend of mine and the co-founder of this blog, we discussed this idea: how about creating an online platform where women from different parts of the world could speak about topics they cared about, with a gender perspective?
Through a long chat one night, we kept on going around and around the possible project, brainstorming ideas. After a while, we thought “The SunFlower Post” would be a suitable name as it is feminine, but also enlightening. Just like our texts aspire to be.
Every time I thought about this idea, it filled me with excitement. What if it happened? What if it worked? How about just trying and seeing what would happen… Soon this idea was becoming a tangible project. I invited some friends that seemed to be enthusiast about representing their country and becoming “Sun Flower’s” bloggers for the platform and we started working.
A few weeks later, after working hard with the volunteer authors, our project is finally launched: an empowering platform where we will raise awareness and reflect about different issues happening around the world, from a local and a gender perspective!
Now, I invite you to explore the platform now and come back soon, as a new post will be featured every day of the week. Join us on facebook and twitter… and please spread the word!
Thank you for being a part of this project.
This is just the beginning
